Collective Worship

Collective worship at St. Cuthbert’s is a time for the children and staff to come together to be in the presence of God. We have whole school Celebration of the Word on Monday mornings which is led by Mrs Garrity or other members of our leadership team. All children from Reception Class to Year 6 collect in the hall and Sunday’s Gospel reading is our focus. During these sessions, we also hear the UNCRC right of the week and our statement to live by for the week.

The children also have class Celebration of the Word which takes place on Wednesday mornings at the beginning of the day. Children in Key Stage 2 plan their own worship with some help from their teachers. Year 5 and Year 6 children are adept at this and they also lead Celebration of the Word in Nursery and Reception Class. Planning their own worship means the children can be creative in their themes, the prayers they write and the music and artwork they include. Families are welcomed to these sessions at least once per term.

To continue the theme and mission from Monday’s Celebration of the Word, staff follow the Ten Ten ‘Life to the Full’ Daily Classroom Prayers on Tuesdays and Thursdays which reflect on the Word and teachings from Sunday’s Gospel. These sessions help the children to keep the mission at the forefront of their mind and show the teaching through their actions.

We also reflect on Monday’s Celebration of the Word during our Celebration Assembly on Fridays. This helps the children to look back at their week, their mission and the statement to live by. Prayer and worship form the start of this session which all children from Nursery to Year 6 attend.
